<P>Ideally what I am looking to accomplish is to be able to tell a vs.net c# developer, who is not linux savvy that he should install a particlur distro and then do a, b ,c in order and then he can be productive.</P>
<P>I have taught and trained .net programmers since .Net's inception and most are scared of linux / mono. They are afraid of not being able to be productive.</P>
<P>My goal is to have a reasonably foolproof transition path from VS.NET to Mono/Monodevelop where a developer can get up and running and be productive very quicky.</P>
<P>A very stable linux disto is essential, while there are many out there, only a few have any name recognition in the MS community.</P>
<P>As an IT director I am budgeting more for MS development licensing then I used to budget for entire production deployments. The smaill guys are being priced out of the market.<BR><BR>Gary Davidson </P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>>Currently, Gentoo has monodevelop-0.6 in the tree, but hard masked. It
<DIV></DIV>>is relatively trivial to install, once you have Gentoo up and running.
<DIV></DIV>>Unfortunately, the learning curve and time investiment for a Gentoo
<DIV></DIV>>install can be very steep, depending on the way you choose to do the
<DIV></DIV>>install. I guess it's a matter of whether you want to trade a
<DIV></DIV>>potentially difficult time installing monodevelop with a potentially difficult
<DIV></DIV>>time initially installing your distribution. Some prefer one, some prefer the
<DIV></DIV>>other. (:
