You're quite right, but it is still nice to have a step-by-step guide.

My instructions apply equally to tarballs (although tarballs aren't
available for everything) - I even used them with the tarballs to check
a problem with mcs, but I wrote it for svn for my own purposes. As you
say, mostly it's the ./configure && make && make install dance, but
there are some inconsistancies (see monodoc/gtk-sharp 1.0/monkeyguide)
and the main point of my instructions was to list the dependencies
needed as well as the steps required.

I'll get them published and see what you think.
