Well, the proper instructions are on each module.

The simple and supported way of compiling Mono is from tarball packages,
because SVN always has extra requirements and that is a fairly
straight-forward setup: configure, make, make install for each package. 

We will be moving to a Wiki very soon, and you could then update the
instructions more easily.
