[Mono-list] installation - mono

hello,
    as a student i am very interested in the mono project.  i just have a few questions.  i am working off of a freeBSD box.  i downloaded the three tar files from your web site.  i am having a little trouble making the files.  before you back-hand me and tell me to leave you alone, i was just wondering if you guys know of anywhere to get documentation on such a situation.  i know documentation is sparse.  i figured i would check with you guys before i spend a couple of hours figuring out for myself.  i also haven't worked on any projects like this one before, but i am very interested in it.  how can i contribute?
