You didn't find a fix, you found a workaround :)

This is a monodevelop bug, and somehow it can be workarounded at the 
packaging level. Do you mind filing a bug in http://bugzilla.xamarin.com/ ?

Also, next time you want to know where MonoDevelop stores its logs, just 
go to menu Help -> Open Log Directory.
