[MonoDevelop] MonoDevelop 5.9 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Question)

I recently installed MonoDevelop 5.9 on two separate Linux Lite 2.6 machines
(based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS).

I followed the instructions provided here:

http://www.mono-project.com/docs/getting-started/install/linux/#debian-ubuntu-and-derivatives

A couple days later I was running routine updates, and both machines got
stuck at the same point, I was running a GUI, not apt-get, so I wasn't able
to see the output.

During troubleshooting several people mentioned that cross distro PPAs can
sometimes cause weird issues, with dependent packages etc. and pointed out
my MonoDevelop PPAs were for Debian, and not Ubuntu.

I know I can install MonoDevelop 4.0 from the official Ubuntu PPAs, but I
would really like to get a more up to date version. Has anyone else had any
sort of issues running newer versions on Ubuntu 14.04? Also what is the best
way to get a newer version? Am I going to have to build it myself?
