[MonoDevelop] Autocomplete not displaying properly

MonoDevelop's autocomplete feature was working just fine up until recently.
I'm not sure what I did to cause this, but I can't see the list form the
autocomplete.  It's still there and I can navigate with the arrow keys (I
can see a sliver of the autocomplete list) but I can't see the text inside. 
I have attached screenshot below.

I tried reinstalling MonoDevelop as packaged with unity after I removed
various associated MonoDevelop settings folders:  I'm using Windows 8 and so
I deleted the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Unity\MonoDevelop" folder (there's no
uninstall), the "AppData\Roaming\MonoDevelop-Unity-2.8" folder, and the
"AppData\Local\MonoDevelop-Unity-2.8" folder.  I also uninstalled Unity, but
it seems all settings were reinstated after reinstalling Unity, and the
MonoDevelop problem persisted.

How can I fix this?
