[MonoDevelop] MonoDevelop side-by-side installation

Hi,

I am relatively new to Ubuntu and MonoDevelop. Is it possible to install MD
2.x and 3.x into the same machine in a side-by-side manner?

>From my usage of Ubuntu, when I need a new version of something, either I
have to upgrade the OS or lose the old version of the tool to be replaced
with a newer version.

Hence I am running VMs each running different version of Ubuntu and surely
there is a better way to get side-by-side support.
