[MonoDevelop] Please install mono version 2.8

I just installed Mono 2.10.5 from source on my computer and then got this
error when trying to install MonoDevelop:

"configure: error: Please install mono version 2.8 or later to install
MonoDevelop."  If I run "mono -V" it reports that Mono 2.10.5 is in fact
installed.  Does anyone have any idea what I need to do?  Thanks!
