[MonoDevelop] Adding a Project Template to MD 2.8

Is there some trick to adding a project template to MD 2.8?  I've tried to follow the post here:

But it doesn't work.  I'm assuming something has changed.  Is there more up to date information available?  I'm currently placing them in my ~/.config/MonoDevelop-2.6 directory.  Has this been moved?
