[MonoDevelop] Installing monodevelop with .NET 4.0

This is probably a simple question, but, in attempting to install Monodevelop on a Vista system, with .NET 4.0 installed, I am told the installer requires .NET 3.5. Is there a way to install the current release of Monodevelop with .NET 4.0? If not, is it workable to have both .NET 3.5 and 4.0 present on the same system? My system no doubt was updated when I installed Visual Studio 2010 Express, if I were to remove .NET 4.0 to install 3.5, would that become unworkable?
