On the download page it says
"MonoDevelop 2.2 is available in Ubuntu 10.4. Older Ubuntu releases
contain older versions."

I'd recommend you build from MD SVN source so you have the latest
development bits. You might also want to build Mono 2.6.1 so that you
have a debugger.
