[MonoDevelop] Difficulty launching MonoDevelop 2.0 on MacOSX 10.4.11

I've been going through the message archive, and can't find anything that
exactly matches the difficulty I'm having.

I'm a new user to Mono and .net in general, and I was hoping to get started
with the toolchain here. I'm an experienced software developer, but most of
my programming experience is from years ago in embedded Forth, so I'm a bit
lost. :)

I've installed the current mono and monodevelop packages from the
go-mono.com download page.. but whenever I attempt to launch the MonoDevelop
app, it briefly appears in the dock for less than a second, then vanishes.
No error messages are reported. I also attempted using a terminal to launch
the app using 'open /Applications/MonoDevelop.app' but that also yielded the
same behavior, with no error messages or other feedback to the command line.

I'd attempt to troubleshoot further, but I don't know where to begin.
There's nothing in the system.log related to Mono, and I don't know how to
coerce something useful out of the monodevelop app.

Any suggestions?
