[MonoDevelop] Why Monodevelop?

Hi

Monodevelop is a port of sharpdevelop and sharpdevelop is older than
eclipse.

Therefore the correct question would be: why eclipse, why they invented
the wheel twice and did not just build on top of a free software
development environment.
