[MonoDevelop] MD svn & redcarpet broken

After several successful months of using MD from both svn and Red Carpet 
I am now in the situation of being unable to get a working system. I am 
unable to check out from svn because of this error

svn co svn://svn.myrealbox.com/source/trunk/monodevelop

svn: Valid UTF-8 data
(hex: 10)
followed by invalid UTF-8 sequence
(hex: bf 07 08 01)

My Redcarpet upgrade results in a MD warning on startup.
The following addins could not be started
MonoDevelopCore.addin
MonoDevelopEditor.addin
MonoDevelopDebugger.addin
Needless to say without these addins it is unusable.

I completely uninstalled all rpms remotely related to Mono but it made 
no difference. I assume there is some dependancy missing but I don't 
know what. Has anybody got any suggerstions
