[Mono-ue] Build Preview 4 with 4.4 on Mac

The patchset is for the 4.4 branch. If it doesn't apply you may have
some local changes or you may be on another branch.

We submitted several of the patches upstream and a couple were merged
into 4.5 and a couple more into 4.6 (though the rest of the patchset
does not apply cleanly to those branches).
