Hello Stefan,

Couple of updates.

Since you are a student, you can get commercial licenses to Xamarin for
free (we just announced this):

That said, you do not need to actually go through the process of getting
the license until you decide to ship (or when we officially launch Mono for
Unreal Engine as a supported product).
