[Mono-list] Console won't locate Hello.cs

This is probably a sill problem but I cannot seem to fix it, I am following
the Mono-Basic tutorial and trying to use the console to say "hello world".
I'm using windows and have created a file called hello.cs with all the
required code. But when I open up the console and type gmcs hello.cs I get
the following error.

"error CS2001: Source file 'hello.cs' could not be found Compilation failed:
1 error(s), 0 warnings"

I have currently saved the file to my desktop, is there somewhere else I
should save it? or am I doing something wrong? Like I said this is probably
a silly problem, but I am very new to this and would really appreciate some
help.

Thank you.
