Ah, this entire time I have been talking about Mono on Solaris/SPARC,
not on x86.

Support for Solaris/x86, as it has been pointed out on the list, has
bitrotten.   Zoltan commited some fixed to trunk that /might/ fix the
problem for you, but I have not tested this myself.
