How about installing into two separate locations (/usr/lib/mono-release
and /usr/lib/mono-snapshot, for example) and using /etc/alternatives to
point /usr/lib/mono to the desired location? Then the debian/rules could
avoid use of /usr/lib/mono altogether and just point directly to the
desired version.
Wouldn't the current situation cause problems with the autobuilders if
mono ever makes it into debian-proper?
