[Mono-list] Is MONO really for Linux?

Mono is for Linux, as well as any platform that chooses to use it.

My current understanding is that Mono still needs Windows to compile mcs
(the mono compiler).  The plan is that this will not always be the case.

Mono itself (i.e. the runtime) runs under Linux, as does mcs (after being
compiled under Windows).

Equipped with mcs and mono you can proceed to write, compile and run C#
programs under Linux.
