Copyright only concerns *copying.* If you come to the same solution on 
your own, you are OK. The guidelines you quoted ensure that this is what 
actually happens.

I interpret that last statement to refer to Microsoft's documentation: 
The documentation describes an interface and not an implementation. 
Therefore it is "safe" to look at.
