[Mono-dev] Mono support on Fedora, Ubuntu, Solaris, etc.

We'll build for Mac OS X on PPC and x86 still but we would appreciate
help with Solaris.

What I'm trying to do for solaris is start maintaining the packages on
Blastwave.org. They have a build infrastructure and lots of packagers
to help us with packaging and build difficulties. Go to
http://wiki.blastwave.org/ and click on the "Join Us" link. Mention in
the "Additional Notes" that you want to help maintain the mono packages.

If you had something else in mind let me know, but I think that hosting
it on blastwave will give it the best exposure inside the solaris
community.

Hi there,

I think we can commit to keep builds for

- Solaris x86
- Solaris SPARC
- Mac PPC

(And hopefully soon HP-UX, but not yet).

But, we'd need some help starting up since I expect some problems
building in Solaris.

we build and platforms we do not test them on. The Generic Linux

that they include the best version and that it's packaged in the best
way.

The Generic Linux installer has already been dropped. This new policy
will take effect immediately and will impact the 2.0 release.

distributions. On the contrary we want to give our users and developers
the best experience possible. The best way to do this is to have better
cooperation with members of the major distribution projects.

own releases. For instance we would love to have an Ubuntu PPA with the
latest mono. I don't know if Fedora has something similar but we can
use the openSUSE Build Service to build packages for RedHat derivatives
if they don't. Our hope is that this will lead to better mono support
on all the major distributions.

skills to help in this way please contact me. If possible we would like
to have packages for all these platforms available when 2.0 is released
in late September (more likely early October).
