Yes, I believe you are right. The man page needs updating - and I think (g)mcs 
should be made to at least warn about characters that does not follow the 
encoding the compiler is currently using. If possible.

I can't easily locate the source for the man file content in the source 
tree... otherwise I would have mailed a patch for that part.
