Rob,
This seems like a fairly major bug, having no GC support when running applications on BSD. Is someone working on this problem, or is there more information somewhere on the cause of the problem so I can look into why the GC doesn't work?

Mono already works to a certain degree on OSX. There is a bug (51590)
that is currently preventing a clean build from CVS. Check out the
report for a workaround. The interpreter (mini) is completely
functional and thanks to Paolo Molaro, the JIT (mono) is well on its
way to being complete on PPC.
The only catch right now on BSD is the GC is broken. You must compile
with --with-gc=none.
