I do not recall any (major) recent changes in the rule. Can you give a point
(either a Gendarme version or a GIT/SVN revision) where it regressed? 

Or maybe I'm misinterpreting "this rules as is nowadays" as a comparison to an
earlier (and better) state wrt the rule ?!?
