I just installed mono-2.8p1 on a new machine with opensuse 11.3 i586 (different
architecture) with monotools-server-gui-2.0.7180-1.9 and it also failed with
the same error as x86_64.

Definitely looks like a 2.8 on opensuse 11.3 issue.

So, to summarize:

opensuse 11.3 x86_64 w/mono-2.8p1 and monotools-server-gui-2.0.7180-1.9: FAIL
opensuse 11.3 x86_64 w/mono-2.6.7 and monotools-server-gui-2.0.7180-1.9: PASS
opensuse 11.3 i586   w/mono-2.8p1 and monotools-server-gui-2.0.7180-1.9: FAIL
opensuse 11.2 x86_64 w/mono-2.8p1 and monotools-server-gui-2.0.7180-1.9: PASS

Definitely looks like a 2.8 *on* opensuse 11.3 issue.
