Having seen this in the ChangeLog:

    * MenuAPI.cs: Close any active menu when we get a simple Alt.
    Fixes #509299.

I thought I'd check if the Alt key thing I mentioned in comment #3/4 got
fixed... but it didn't (looks like this fix should be extended to be applied in
more cases).

Also, the behavior of extra tooltip elements regressed in Mono SVN. See this
new screenshot.
