Unfortunately (fortunately?) I can't reproduce this locally on our ppc64 box. 
I have a jail setup for you anyway though and will give you the info.  One
thing I notice is that it sits for a very long time apparently doing nothing. 
I wonder if something significant is going on that shows up in the build
service as a crash but only causes long delays on our box.
