I made a typo earlier; I meant to say that we can reproduce this *without* any
of our UIA/a11y stuff installed.

But we do have a11y turned on, which could conceivably be affecting Gecko.  I
will try with a11y turned off as soon as I can to see if that can help narrow
down where the bug is.
