Ubuntu is only shipping the GtkHtml renderer. This is definitely a bug - we
probably only want to ship the WebKit renderer rather than all of them.

However, I'm unable to reproduce your screenshot on Ubuntu 9.04 using either
Darklooks or High Contrast Inverse, on the GtkHtml renderer, so I'm not going
to make fixing this worth a stable release update (unless I'm missing something
about how to trigger it)
