I forgot to mention the performance numbers. As the reporter said, the gain is
an order of magnitude:

Old: 4678ms
New: 435ms

Also, I made some changes to inssel.c which doesn't seem to be under revision
control. W/o those changes, I don't think this patch will compile. It's too
late for me to figure this out right now, so someone just want to tell me the
secret?
