Good news: I can't duplicate the crash that mono-branch has on monobuild [1]

Unit tests (from HEAD) shows 3 minor failures when executed using the system
mono (2 fixed in HEAD, probably fixed in 1.9.1 too, another probably related to
a newer freetype/fontconfig).

Conclusion: our best bet is to use updated openSUSE libgdiplus using HEAD

[1] it's probably means that there's some other problem (with X config ?) on
the branch bots.
