This has now been tested with three serial adapters:
Socket Bluetooth Serial Adapter
Socket USB Serial Adapter
Keyspan USB Serial Adapter (19HS)

The same behavior exists through all three methods--the port can be opened,
bytes are "seen" in the read queue via .BytesToRead, and all the Read* calls
fail immediately with "TimeoutException" even though data is available and
regardless of ReadTimeout's value.
