I've not been able to compile Gtk# either. Since Mono is freely available as
binaries why can't the gui components be too. Not all of us want to compile
our own development environment. The quickest way to drive us back to
Windows is to back life difficult.

Subject: [Gtk-sharp-list] Gtk# Development Platform - Part 2
Hello,
First, thanks to everyone who responded (both on the mailing list
and privately) to my original post.
I finally got the right versions of Gtk+2, etc, to compile
Gtk#. (Although I don't think all the parts of it compiled.)
I did the usual "./configure", "make", "make install". And
it seemed to go fine. (And it installed the stuff under
/usr/local/lib.)
However, when I try to run the stuff in the "sample" directory,
I get errors. For example, when I run:
mono gtk-hello-world.exe
I get:
** (gtk-hello-world.exe:4135): WARNING **: Could not find assembly
glib-sharp
** (gtk-hello-world.exe:4135): WARNING **: Could not find assembly
gtk-sharp
Can not open image gtk-hello-world.exe
Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?... or what is
wrong? (I though it might have something to do with setting
the MONO_PATH variable. So I set it to ".:/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib".
But that didn't work.)
Just to reiterate. I am running Mandrake 8.2 with Ximian GNOME
and some of the GNOME 2 packages from the Mandrake Club (if it
is relevant).
TIA
See ya
