[Moonlight-list] 1.99.7 plugin doesn't install

Something does not add up here:  You say you are using Karmic, but you also say you have Firefox 3.0.14.  Since Karmic will ship with Firefox 3.5.3 I think we can conclude that your upgrade to Karmic is incomplete in some way.  That might explain why you are having trouble.

I installed it from the moonlight-beta site, it is the first time I try
moonlight.

My architecture is i686.
