Sorry, remove the "private", since this is within a method:

System.Threading.AutoResetEvent remoteCommandDoneEvent = new
System.Threading.AutoResetEvent(false);

RunOnUiThread(() => {

success = ExecuteRemoteCommand(command, parameter);

remoteCommandDoneEvent.Set();

});

remoteCommandDoneEvent.WaitOne();
