As Mono is open-source, you can grab the Mono code and use it however
you wish (within its license).

What MonoDroid adds is:
- Bindings to the Android platform (Mono.Android.dll)
- Extensive tooling to make life easier (VS Plugin, MonoDevelop Plugin,
packaging, debugging, etc.)
- Additional testing, support, and community that comes from having a
larger user base.

Mono has been running on Android since almost day one. We've spent the
past year on the tools and libraries to make developing for Mono on
Android a pleasurable and productive experience. :)
