[MonoDevelop] Can external tools operate on selected text?

@devs: Great job on Monodevelop 4.x guys! It's looking better all the
time. As for my question, can the external tools feature of
Monodevelop be made to operate on whatever text in the editor is
currently selected (similar to how the text editor, gEdit works)? I
especially like how gEdit accommodates those tools that read from
standard input and write to standard output, thus allowing you to
create actual pipes to modify the selected text... I sure hope that
the developers will consider introducing such improvements into
Monodevelop at some point because it would be really nice being able
to customize to this extent. Please give it some thought. Again, great
job on the IDE!
