[MonoDevelop] where can newbie learn how to single step a c# program in monodevelop

Actually, it keeps fighting me. 
I set debug then when I go back it reverts to release....


At the top of monodevelop, I select
Project->Demo.WindowsForm Options

Then I pick 
Build-Compiler
Configuration: Debug
Then I click 
OK

When I go out and back in, it goes back to release.
