[MonoDevelop] How to debug a c program in Monodevelop

Ok, after changing a number of permissions I was able to attach to the
running process and debug with MonoDevelop.  But unfortunately, I want to
trap some of the functions that happen upon initialization.  So, the
question still remains, how do I start the C program in MonoDevelop with the
debugger?
