Very sadly I've never seen anything more current or in-depth than those
and the work they are derived from.

The awesome potential is pretty much left of the floor unless you have
the time to really dig into the mechanics.
I've successfully used UNO from PHP via PHP-UNO [communicating with a
headless OpenOffice service]. That code operates in production or
generate PDF and XLS content. But I haven't seen anything else beyond
using the service to convert file types.
