[MonoDevelop] class view not working in monodevelop (ubuntu)

On monodevelop 2.8.6.3 using Ubuntu 12.04, I cannot use the class view
window in monodevelop when I am working on a cpp project. This only
applies to c++: it works fine for c# projects. In a related development,
there is no code completion in my cpp project. As in the last case, it
works for c# projects.

The documentation on the monodevelop website
(http://monodevelop.com/Documentation/Creating_C_and_CPP_Projects)
indicates that you can use the class pad and code completion in c/c++
projects. Hopefully that has not been removed. I think it is a problem
on my end though. Has anybody seen anything similar?
