[MonoDevelop] Real VIM, not just VI emulation

It seems that there once was an effort to embed real VIM in MonoDevelop:

I see that this project has gone nowhere. Where might I find the
fruits of this project? I am a VIM user, but I would like to get into
an IDE such as MonoDevelop. I have played with MonoDevelop's VI
emulation mode, however it is lacking many real VIM features such as
.vimrc mappings and functions. VIM does have a socket interface for
integration into an IDE, so much of the non-MonoDevelop code is
already in place.
Thank you.
