[MonoDevelop] MonoDevelop OSX / Windows performance differences

I notice a big performance difference between the Windows and MacOSX versions
of MonoDevelop
when loading and compiling the same projects.

The Windows versions seems to be order of magnitude faster than the OSX one:
is it an illusion, can it be explained, and fixed?
