[MonoDevelop] Beginner question; can't even do Hello World!

Hi!
I am attempting to follow tutorials to make my first Hello World app., but I
am already having problems!
I have installed Mono, MonoTouch and MonoDevelop, and created a new iPhone
Window based project.
When I click the generated MainWindow.xib, XCode4 opens up as expected...
fine so far! :)
After dragging an object onto the view (for example, a Label) and
Right-Click on File's Owner, a black dialog box appears, but it lists
different options to those in any tutorial I have seen; the progress icon
perpetually spins, and clicking in the options on the right hand side of the
dialog just flashes up a +, which disappears once I move the mouse.
I am /assuming/ that this dialog populates with context-sensitive options
once it has finished loading, but this never happens..
I have tried opening/closing and eventually rebooting the Mac, to no avail.
Please could someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks for reading.
