[MonoDevelop] Assembly Browser not working

Thanks for all these materials Sylvain.

I've tried to completely remove mono and monodevelop from my computer
following the guides and hints you sent me, and then reinstall a fresh mono
environnement. Unfortunately, I must have missed a few files as new problems
emerged with the new install.

So eventually I formatted my hard drive an reinstalled Ubuntu. Now it works
perfectly! phew! 

At least these countless hours of research and fixing taught me something:
Never try something new without a backup
