[MonoDevelop] How to get MD to let go of a dll?

At this time I think I have only questions to help gather more information
from you about the problem. 

What version of MonoDevelop are you using?   

What is the exact error MD is giving you when you attempt rebuild? 

Why are using using two solutions and switching back and forth? I assume the
project that builds the DLL in question is in the first solution, have you
also added this project to the second solution so you do not have to switch? 
Or is it and you are switching between solutions for another purpose? 

Do you have both solutions open at the same time? 

Do you have anything running against the DLL in question? UnitTests or an
app that is referencing it?
