[MonoDevelop] Build from git?

I wonder if anyone has used "MONO_GAC_PREFIX=/usr/local ./configure
--prefix=/opt/mono && make && sudo make install" when building mono and
monodevelop from source? Would you suggest I wipe out everything I've done
so far and start over using "MONO_GAC_PREFIX=/usr/local" for each item
built?
