Try changing your GTK theme.

What I personally do at times is to change everything into a bright
color scheme (text editor, GTK theme, terminal profile, etc)

And run "xcalib -i -a" (you might need to install some package on your
distro). This completely inverts every color and everything from most
websites to the IDE becomes bearable at night.
